Peek Inside Juno, Lincoln Avenue's New Japanese Restaurant (PHOTOS)

A long-awaited Japanese restaurant at 2638 N. Lincoln Ave. has finally opened its doors.

Those who have been anxiously anticipating the opening of Jason Chan and B.K. Park's restaurant, Juno, can rest easy.

About 120 people showed Friday night for the Japanese eatery's grand opening, Chan said Monday. That's about 40 more people than you'll generally find inside.

"We can fit around 100, but we want people to be comfortable so we'll be serving around 80," he said, graciously welcoming Patch to take photographs of the restaurant's interior.

The 2,500-square-foot space at 2638 N. Lincoln Ave. is the former home of Merlo La Salumeria, according to City of Chicago building permits.

Chan has described the food as "contemporary Japanese focused on seafood." The menu includes do-it-yourself sushi rolls and oyster shooters.

The restaurant's opening was delayed because of several factors, sources have said. Chan, who supporters describe as "everyone's friend" was diagnosed in January 2012 with throat cancer.
This past January, he began an aggressive seven-week course of daily radiation and weekly chemotherapy.

"My two greatest passions are the hospitality industry and the martial arts," Chan said to Eater Chicago. "I tried to do what I love and at the same time not let my customers and students bare the burden of my struggle."
