Crouching Thugs, Hidden Machete: Bicycler Waylaid Just for Giggles

Bicyclist hopes video of his attack surfaces on the Internet.

A man riding his bike home from work on Chicago's West Side was set upon by two men in their 20s, one wielding a machete who swatted his bike as he sped past.

“I tried to speed past them, but one of them swung the machete at my back wheel," the man told the Chicago Sun-Times. "And then the same guy punched me in the face."

The other held a camera phone and laughed.

“That’s when I thought, ‘Oh, well this guy’s giggling, this is a joke to them. At least I’m not going to get murdered.’ ”

The 30-year-old man posted his tale on Reddit: "I assumed I would be robbed of everything I had on me but instead the machete wielder hit my bike again in the rear wheel and shouted at me to "get the f#$% out of here." Somewhat relieved I left as fast as I could ..."

Chicago Police searched the area following Saturday's 3 a.m. attack, in the 2500 block of West Potomac in the Humboldt Park community, but found no one.

"I wonder if it was the 'Knockout Game.' I think that might have been what it was," the man said. He's hoping someone will find the video posted on the Internet.
