Fancy Some 'Oyster Beer?' It's Coming Soon

Oyster Pail will feature beer brewed from oysters and oyster shells. Its set to open in March or April.

Bow Truss coffee's owner Phil Tadros announced in August that he would be opening a cocktail lounge and oyster bar in East Lake View in 2014 — and he's recently announced that the restaurant, called Oyster Pail, will also serve Oyster Beer.

Oyster Beer, according to an article by Eater, is beer that will be brewed in-house from oysters and oyster shells in a two-barrel system. Tadros has recruited brewmaster Eric McNeal, of Strange Pelican brewery, to run the system. Flying Dog Brewery in Maryland and Porterhouse Brewing Co. in Ireland are two breweries that currently make beer out of oysters.

Oyster Pail will be located at at 2928 N. Broadway St., and is set to open in March or April, Eater states.

The building will feature two levels, each with its own name — Oyster Pail on the ground floor and a cocktail lounge called The Wilcox on the basement level.

"There's nowhere in East Lake View or on Broadway to get a good cocktail," Tadros told Eater in August. "The closest place is Barrelhouse Flat. We want to do what Violet Hour does with cocktails but with a relaxed atmosphere."
