End of An Era: Spin Abruptly Closes After 15 Years

News sources report that Boystown nightclub will reopen under new ownership during PRIDE weekend.

Spin Nightclub bid bon voyage to its loyal following on Facebook amid rumors of its imminent closing, ChicagoPride.com reported.

“Hi everyone. SPIN is officially closed. We would like to thank all of our customers for their support these many years and wish everyone a Happy Memorial Day! Stay tuned for what happens next.”

Owned by David Gassman for the past 15 years, the gay nightclub, located at 800 W. Belmont Ave. in the heart Boys’ Town, at times clashed with nearby condo owners who complained about the club’s pulsating base keeping them awake at night. Over the years, some residential neighbors had attempted to have the precinct declared dry.

Gassman put the club up for sale in February, according to DNA Info. He is said to own several properties on Broadway that he plans to develop, the news website reported.

Spin with its 9,000-square-foot dance floor, amateur drag shows and Friday night shower contests was a mainstay in the LGBT community, as well as a few “real housewives,” ChicagoPride said. Employees were notified of the club’s sudden closing on Monday.

The club is said to be under new ownership and will re-open around Pride Weekend, which falls on June 28-June 29, ChicagoPride reported.
