Workers Busy on New North Halsted Mixed-Use Development

Wondering what's going on behind those planks of wood on North Halsted Street?

The lot between ComputerLand LLC and the tarot card-reading shop on North Halsted Street remained hidden Monday behind a temporary wall, as construction continued on the new building.

Vacant for two years, the lot will house new residential and commercial spaces soon, building owner Art Gurevich said.

Issued on June 19, the permit says the building will stand at four stories tall. It will include nine apartment units, two retail spaces and a garage.

If construction remains on schedule through the winter, the building should be completed by April 2014, according to Gurevich.

He declined to comment late last week on the status of the commercial units, saying contracts for those spaces are in the works.

Before construction began, the lot had been empty for two years Before it was demolished, a dilapidated storefront had been located there.
