Police have formally charged a man who they say was armed with two loaded handguns during Friday's Chicago Blackhawks festivities.

A man who police say was carrying two loaded handguns—one in a backpack, one in his pocket—was arrested Friday morning just before the Chicago Blackhawks Parade traveled east on Washington Street.

Roger L. Harrison, 37, of the 3100 block of Holden Circle in Matteson, is due in court Saturday morning for a bond hearing. He was taken into custody around 10:10 a.m. Friday in the 100 block of North LaSalle Street, and police said late Friday that they do not believe he was plotting to use his weapons at the event.

"Based on the conversations our detectives had with the offender today, there is no indication he was planning anything," they said, in a written statement.

Officers stopped Harrison in front of City Hall, NBC reported.

"The man initially tried to walk away when a police officer asked to look in his backpack," that story says. "The officer refused to let him leave and began the search."

Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala told Patch that authorities took note of the man because he was "acting suspiciously."

"He admitted to having a handgun in his pocket and a search revealed a second handgun in his backpack," Zala said, in an e-mailed statement. "As we made clear prior to today's events, police would be doing searches of large bags and backpacks and this arrest is a clear example of the effectiveness of those efforts."
