Look: Lincoln Park's Romney Supporters
Patch broke down the more than 40 precincts in Lincoln Park, revealing where the most Obama lovers and Romney supporters reside.
President Barack Obama may have snatched the votes of 84 percent of Chicago constituents on Tuesday, but in Lincoln Park, some voters thought Gov. Mitt Romney should have been the next commander in chief.
Patch broke down the more than 40 different precincts in Lincoln Park between two different wards to find where Obama’s biggest supporters live, and more importantly, where Romney’s largest following resides. Wards 32 and 43 each claim a portion of the neighborhood.
So, where were the most votes cast for Romney? A total of 273 people in 43rd Ward Ald. Michele Smith's 10th precinct selected him—a higher tally for Romney than any other precinct in the Lincoln Park section of the 43rd Ward, according to Chicago's online election results. North Racine and Clybourn make up the western border of that voter area, which snakes around Kenmore and Maud avenues and up North Sheffield Avenue to Dickens.
No. 1 for Romney, percentage wise, in Smith's area of Lincoln Park was the 3rd precinct, near Orchard Street and Armitage Avenue, where he commanded slightly more than 38 percent of all ballots.
Those living in Smith's 41st precinct in and around DePaul University checked 244 boxes in favor of Romney. Strangely enough, that same precinct—it had the most voters in Lincoln Park—had the highest number of Obama votes at 496.
