5 Local Restaurants Among 2013 Bib Gourmands
Five restaurants in Lincoln Park won the Bib Gourmand designation for the 2013 Michelin Guide.
It's chow time.
The Michelin Guide has announced the recipients of its Bib Gourmand for 2013, and that list included 64 Chicago restaurants, according to a Chicago Tribune report. Five of the Chicago area winners are right here in Lincoln Park.
The local selections are as follows, in no particular order:
- Twin Anchors Restaurant & Tavern, 1655 N. Sedgwick St.
- Riccardo Trattoria, 2119 N. Clark St.
- Raj Darbar, 2660 N. Halsted St.
- Gemini Bistro
- Balena, 1633 N. Halsted St.
The Bib Gourmand designation is given to the rating group's favorite restaurants in an affordable price range—less than $40 for two courses and a dessert, according to the Tribune.
The report says that this year's list includes an increased showing from Chicago restaurants compared to last year's 56, and that 19 of this year's Bib Gourmand recipients earned the honor for the first time.
Eleven Chicago restaurants from last year's list were removed from the 2013 list.
Among those not listed is local eatery, Perennial Virant, 1800 N. Lincoln Ave.
"Of the 11 culled restaurants, only one has reason to be happy: Perennial Virant, whose absence from the Bib Gourmand list may mean a Michelin star rating is in its immediate future. (A restaurant cannot be a star recipient and Bib Gourmand winner simultaneously.)," the Chicago Tribune reports.
